When you’re in love, being able to capture that love on film is a beautiful and timeless way to celebrate your relationship — especially if it’s a couples photoshoot in Paris! The last thing you want as you journey through the city is to feel stressed or uncomfortable. You should be able to have a relaxed photoshoot that allows you and your partner to enjoy the moment and each other.
There’s no denying that Paris is one of the most beautiful and most romantic cities in the world. As Paris photographers, we are perhaps biased but in our humble opinion, it is the perfect backdrop for your most treasured memories! 🤩
To help alleviate your stress, we’ve come up with 10 actionable tips to have a comfortable and relaxed photoshoot in the hopes to make your day worry-free. We’re including pre-photoshoot tips, photoshoot tips, and everything in between in the hopes of helping you and yours create magic together.
Luckily, a Paris couples photoshoot is magical on its own — but a few tips never hurt!
1. Don’t Care About What Other People May Think Of You!
This is definitely one of the biggest tips for a couples photoshoot. The moments we are able to capture are amazing, but what you don’t see is what goes on behind the scenes.
Part of the beauty of Paris couples photography is the places you can go to find the perfect shot. Yet, it is almost a guarantee that as you are shooting, there will be people around you. In such a beautiful city, the streets are rarely empty.
You’ve heard the phrase “dance like nobody’s watching” and this is the perfect mindset to implement for your Paris couples photoshoot. Loving embraces, dancing together in the middle of a busy street, silly strolls in the park laughing too loudly — all of it is fantastic in photos! This means a few onlookers or a crowded landmark can’t stop you. Just enjoy each other and the moment.
2. Choose A Location That You Feel Safe
There’s no shortage of amazing shots that can be taken, but one of the biggest relaxed photoshoot tips for couples is that not all shots should be taken. When we say that we mean if you’re deathly afraid of heights, we shouldn’t choose the top of a cliff — even if the view is gorgeous!
There’s nothing wrong with experimenting but if the places you choose for your photoshoot end up making you nervous, or anxious, then it will come across in the photos. There are plenty of photos that can be achieved without having to make you feel at ease.
3. Create A Playlist With Your Favorite Songs To Set The Mood
Having a playlist on hand and ready to play at a moment’s notice, even if it’s just from a small speaker or directly from your phone, can really make a big impact on the kind of energy you and your partner have! This means it can have a huge impact on the kind of photos you’ll take.
Plus, if it happens to be your engagement? Getting a photoshoot playlist also helps you think about the music you want to be played at the wedding! Added bonus: if you build the playlist together, it’s a fun activity and a great engagement photoshoot tip all in one.
4. Wear Something You Feel Comfortably Fabulous In
The better you feel, the better you look. The better you look, the better you feel. Whatever it is you choose to wear, make sure that it is something you feel comfortable in!
That means more than just the right color scheme or on-trend fashion. It means something you can move in. It means something that will keep you from overheating in the summer or catching a cold in the winter.
That doesn’t mean you can’t be fabulous — if you’re comfortable rocking five-inch heels, or layers of leather, great! The confidence from your comfort will make the pictures flawless.
5. Tell Your Photographer About Boundaries You May Have Ahead Of Time
As we mentioned earlier, the more comfortable you feel in your photoshoot, the better the photoshoot will be. As your photographers, we want to do anything we can to make you feel as amazing as we can!
If you have a part of your body you’re not super happy with, let us know! If you have an angle that you know you feel more comfortable in, please tell us. When you let us know what makes you feel best, we can make sure we make you look best — and that’s truly what matters.
6. Move, Play, And Have Fun Together — And With Your Photographer!
One of the biggest ways to help melt away the stress of trying to figure out the right poses, angles, or whether you’re smiling naturally, is to genuinely enjoy the time you’re spending while in the photoshoot. So let’s make it fun!
Dancing, prancing, nothing is off limits — including your photographer getting involved! Incorporating movement and having fun makes the candids even more dynamic.
7. Speaking Of Having Fun — Use Props!
One of the biggest complaints about photoshoots is sometimes it feels hard to figure out what to do with your hands — which is why we love suggesting that our couples bring props!
Whatever those may be, are up to you, but anything works. Maybe it’s something that’s sentimental to both of you, or maybe you have a balloon obsession that we can translate into something whimsical — it doesn’t matter what the reason is.
This is such a fun way to make your shoot even more visually exciting and solve the problem of where your hands go!
8. Bring Your Fur Babies With You 🐶
It’s not traditionally customary to bring other members of the family into a couples photoshoot, but in the case of fur babies, this is where exceptions must be made!
Bringing your pets to a shoot with you has the added benefit of being a natural stress reliever while simultaneously being absolutely adorable. We said to bring props … well, pups are absolutely included on that list!
9. Make A Day Of It By Planning Some Fun Activities
Turning your couples photoshoot into a full on day of adventure is one of the best ways to stay comfortable throughout your shoot! Remember that this day is meant to be all about you, which means that we want to do whatever you want to do.
We want to do our best to exist solely in the background as we capture these gentle moments in between that make the most beautiful candid shots. We want to translate your love into picture form, and the more fun you’re having, the more love shines through.
It’s a date! Let’s go find an amazing cafe, gallery, or secret garden and see what adventures await.
10. Choose A Photographer That You Like — Both Their Work And Their Personality
Choosing the right photographer for your relaxed couples’ photoshoot is one of the most critical choices when it comes to getting the dream images you want. You and your photographer need to have some kind of chemistry and an ability to communicate, and that’s not always the easiest thing to find.
Don’t just go based on the work alone — make sure that you are able to talk with your photographer, at least over a call or email, to see if you are compatible. It’s almost like a first date! The vibes have to be right.
The last tip, choosing the right photographer, we left for last. Not because it’s the least important! Because we wanted to make sure that we explained why it’s so important to have the right photographers before you get in contact with the right photographers — US!
